National Key Resource Center | SBM-G, Government of India
Rajasthan Huuman Care Foundation recognized as National Key Resource centre by Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation, Government of India (Now the ministry has been merged with Ministry of Jal Shakti-2019)
RHCF in India accords high priority to the provision of safe sanitation and water services to people in rural areas and has over the past many years aided through catalytic technical support to MDWS, Government of India and 5 state governments in the implementation of the various sanitation programmes and since 2017, specifically to the SBM (G).
With the progress of the SBM (G), and declaration of ODF communities, there is an emerging question on whether the campaign to eliminate open defecation and create ODF communities is resulting in the decrease in faecal contamination in the environment. This is also an area of interest to RHCF as it may reveal the impact of the sanitation campaign on environmental faecal contamination, which directly affects children with role in preventing diarrhea, enteric enteropathy, malnutrition and stunting.
The organization’s expertise includes contribution to the human resource development for WASH in various states through comprehensive and creative capacity development approaches i.e. training.
We developed a conceptual framework for executing training in WASH by reviewing and adapting concepts from literature and practical approaches. Our framework includes three target outcomes: learning, individual performance, and improved programming. We applied the framework to build capacity and sensitize community through One to Five days Community Approach to Sanitation (CAS) and it is delivered across Jharkhand and 18 Districts of Rajasthan.
Training and capacity building are long established critical components of global water, sanitation, and hygiene, strategies, and programs. Expanding capacity building support for WASH in developing countries is one of the targets of the Sustainable Development Goals.
As a National Key Resource, RHCF has various types of training, mainly; One Day and Five Days, Residential Training. Five training approaches are provided by MDWS and its main objective to create maximum community facilitators/motivators. In our trainings we focused on selection and imparting of different triggering strategies and also post triggering challenges such as supply of durable and affordable latrine hardware and technical support on latrine construction.
As a National Key Resource Centre the five-day training module is designed for frontline functionaries, mainly Swachhagrahis, who are deployed at the village level to facilitate community mobilization. It is also the introductory training for practicing and potential master trainers of Community Approaches to Sanitation. This five-day module covers 30 working hours with 12 hours in the field for triggering and post triggering follow-up exercises. Class room sessions are designed to be delivered either as preparation for hands on triggering and follow up, or as de-briefing and experience sharing sessions following real time triggering and follow-up in real communities. The focus of the training is on enhancing practical skills accompanied with necessary knowledge inputs to support skill development exercises.
